The 89th Legislative Session: A Call for Accountability
The conclusion of the 89th legislative session has unmistakably highlighted the failures and corruption of our elected officials. It is crucial to understand that no legislator, regardless of gender, should be absolved of accountability. Even when they occasionally appease the public with minimal legislation—such as the Ten Commandments, which few truly follow, or the sexually explicit content that has persisted in our school libraries throughout the tenure of these establishment politicians—it is clear that genuine accountability is lacking.
Interestingly, the very individuals claiming to have solved these issues are the ones who have perpetuated the problem. The alarming trend is evident: if we continue to reelect the same corrupt establishment politicians, we are on a path toward further dismantling our state, piece by piece.
The Responsibility of Citizens
The responsibility to instigate real change lies with us—the citizens who are fed up with the status quo. We must remain vigilant and critical of the misguided allocation of our tax dollars through deceitfully labeled “school choice” programs, which only serve to give the government undue influence over our children’s education. Coupled with the overreach of Governor Greg Abbott’s centralized control over the curriculum via the State Board of Education, we are witnessing the emergence of a state-controlled educational system. This system threatens to pave the way for privatized education run by the very oligarchs who have repeatedly betrayed our trust.
And let’s not overlook the fact that during the tenure of the “conservative” governor, our borders remained perilously open, allowing millions of illegal individuals to cross, while the Department of Public Safety was reportedly instructed to permit entry, especially for women and children. What does this truly say about the effectiveness of “conservative” policies on immigration?
Is this the legacy of the so-called “conservative” party, striving for the unachievable? As we witness politicians bragging about prioritizing illegal immigration while instead devolving into discussions about male genitalia, labeling it as “balls,” or the fact that children and women who cross the border are unaccounted for or in the hands of the cartels, it becomes evident that they are not representative of true conservative values. This behavior mirrors the very liberals they endlessly criticize, reinforcing the notion that the party has lost its way and its commitment to addressing significant issues facing the state.
Misplaced Priorities
Included in the package from the 89th legislative session is the undeniable truth of how our government chooses to prioritize handing over billions to Hollywood, while our communities grapple with pressing issues. Rampant homelessness and struggling school districts are teetering on the brink of collapse, all while our recapture funds remain withheld. The vast surplus from property taxes is instead funneled into the pockets of billionaires and their businesses, perpetuating a cycle of inequality.
This blatant corruption is why many legislators retire comfortably, having evaded accountability for far too long. It explains the enduring refusal to eliminate the property taxes that weigh heavily on Texans.
A Call to Action
We must confront an uncomfortable truth: for decades, we have been subjected to a relentless barrage of propaganda through the media, reinforcing the notion that our history is stained with racism and intolerance. This narrative suggests that our differences—whether in skin color, gender, or any other identity marker—define our worth and justify division among us. As this division deepens, our leaders have distracted us with escalating crises, ensuring our shared struggles cement their grip on power. Today, we should challenge this rhetoric and unite, recognizing that our collective strength lies in embracing our differences rather than allowing them to fracture us.
How much longer will the citizens of Texas tolerate these injustices before rising up against the deep-rooted corruption that afflicts our state? It is time for us to take a stand and demand the change we deserve. The future of our communities and our children’s futures depends on it.
